George France Restaurant Lima

Found this place on a Finger Lakes country drive and was immediately drawn in by the vintage curbside appeal. The interior maintains that ambience. Even the rest room is original from 1945 (ok, so 'expect that!') I'm an occasional but ardent fan of diner food and this place rates high on my list, bumping my long time Route 11 and Route 81 diner off of its decade-long #2 spot. My wife had biscuits and gravy. I had pork chop on stuffing. Authentic milkshakes, homemade pie, and homemade butternut squash with brown sugar rounded out the yummies. We were well-satisfied, but not icky-stuffed like after many chain restaurant meals with fillers and overly-large portions that you can't eat but have to pay for. Also, the price was great. A nicety was that we were served by the proprietor. She was friendly but not at all over-talkative or intrusive. We got to know the place's interesting history when we asked, but were otherwise left to enjoy our meal along with the customary server stop-bys to see what else we might want or need. The quietly crooning closing time clean up crewman was a cute addition. He was a retirement aged gentleman and I'm not actually sure if he works there or was a customer who just decided he wanted to do some of his own sing-song picking up for a bit -- it's that kind of place. We are definitely going back for the regularly served turkey meal. With many more food choices like that, I'll be upping my intake at this diner. The warm food, non-rushed pace (although the service time was good), and the country location make it an ideal destination for a Spring or especially Fall colors drive from Rochester into the glacial hills to the south. For summer time, there's an ice cream window and outdoor seating on some vintage furniture. For winter, it's on the way back from some area ski resorts. On the Area-For-Improvement side: the coffee was solid good, but nothing to rave about -- possibly the night's last pot since we were near closing, but an air-tight carafe usually solves that. My wife and I felt the mashed potatoes that night seemed to be from a mix and not straight-smashed-spuds. This seemed all the more highlighted by the authenticity of the other meal courses. Maybe we were the only ones ordering mash and it would have taken too long to boil a potato – ok, no biggie, but in that case it would help to mention that if I want the mash tonight it'll be mix, not homemade, but that I should come back at thus and such a time for the real thing.

100% ,worth every penny. Food is made fresh and they are not skimpy.I believe it's family owned. Service is wonderful!
